Review of Patisserie PariSco on Guam - September 15, 2016

PATISSERIE PARISCO
SUMMER 2015

I was born and raised on Guam, and never really had a taste of the fancy stuff. Guam desserts like buchi buchi and poto and apigige' and guyuria and latiya and all are what I was raised on. Fast forward to my college years in the early 1990s in Eugene, Oregon, Excelsior Inn - still in business. I fell in love with their fancy, $5.00 desserts. Since ever since, I've been a pastry-chef-at-heart and seek them out with gusto, willing to pay the price for such divinity!

Imagine my excitement a few years ago when I saw all the pictures on Facebook about this new pastry shop on Guam. Whoa! I was soooo there! What more could a Chamorro girl ask for than the richness of her heritage combined with the flavors of the rest of the world?

Patisserie PariSco did not disappoint - except in that the Oka location did not have a place to sit and enjoy their goodies. I met the owner/pastry chef too - she's sweet, was raised on Guam, and went to pastry school somewhere abroad.

I didn't try enough of their desserts, but I promise if you get only one thing there, and it's this pistachio - I think - with strawberry jam - I think - panna cotta, it will be well worth the $7 or $8 price tag! I've tried a ton of desserts, from Oregon to Germany to Spain to Paris to an amazing patisserie here in NC, and this panna cotta is up there at the top 5! It is a perfect combination of smooth, sweet, tart, crunch, and - I don't know, so much good stuff. There are two other flavors that I didn't get around to, sadly.

And their cream puffs? Light and lovely. The photos above are of the taro cream puff. It's lighter than the average vanilla pudding cream puffs - which I love - but still quite delish.

I didn't get around to taking pics of their French macarons, but their cookies are excellent - crunchy outside, creamy cookie / filling inside, and beautiful ruffled feet.

My sister-in-law and I ended up bringing our PariSco treats to Java Hut - a few doors down - so we could sit and enjoy them with coffee.

Since I can make a lot of the Chamorro desserts myself, I go home and look forward to trying all the new eateries on Guam - especially desserts that combine island and international flavors. It's great to get the best of both worlds!

I want to say that PariSco still has a small space in Sakura Noodle House - call them to verify.

Directions: coming from GPO, make a left turn just before St. Anthony's Church - if you pass Tamuning Elementary School, you've gone too far. After making the left before the church, go down a bit, Payless is on your right. Drive behind that building and you'll see the PariSco sign.
