Boñelos mȧnglo', bo-nye-los mawng-lu, is just too simple to not make. This Chamorro doughnut also goes by boñelos aire, bo-nye-los aye-ree, and typhoon doughnuts. The doughnuts are not traditionally covered in sugar and cinnamon, but are left plain.
I'm still working on the recipe. The dough is reminiscent of titiyas harina/ti-tee-dzas ha-ree-na, or flour tortillas, but without the added butter/oil. You need to treat the dough with TLC so it doesn't get too hard the next day.
Stay tuned for my final recipe and video! For more Guam food recipes, take a peek inside my book Remember Guam, or visit me at www.paulaq.com.
