Review of Crown Bakery, Barrigada, Guam - May 18, 2017

CROWN BAKERY - BARRIGADA
DECEMBER 2013

Alright, I need a better picture for the outside of the bakery -- no fear, I'll be home this summer to take one. I've put off writing this because I already did a review of the Dededo location. However, Crown is so much a part of the island -- and I need to do this before I'm back on the rock -- that I had to finish this post. Did I really take all these pics in 2013? I sure did -- shame on me for waiting this long!

If you are local, you know all about Crown Bakery. But for those new and visiting Guam, it's your one-stop bakery. They didn't have hot-and-fresh doughnuts when I was a kid so you are lucky these days. They did have the chocolate sugar cookies that are still a fave among islanders.

I LOVE the chocolate-frosted coconut doughnuts -- must be the chocolate and the coconut :-) -- too bad they don't sell these stateside. Crown's doughnuts have the right amount of dough to sugar ratio -- and they are super pillowy and soft. Fortunately, for me, home is in Yigo -- and after I exercise at Paradise Fitness in Dededo, it's a no-brainer to stop by the Dededo branch for breakfast. I want some NOW!

The hopia cake is "new" -- new from the 1980s anyways. But omg, it is so deeelish! The chocolate flavor is great as well. If you love coconut and cream, this is the cake to get. I know the hopia cake comes in a jelly roll, round, and rectangle -- but probably whatever shape you want.
Don't like fruitcake? Crown's version will change your mind. I mean WOW! And too bad it will not likely be available this summer -- I know it is during the holidays.
My dad's favorite thing to eat from Crown Bakery is their cream puffs. It is full of yummy vanilla pudding. I think they have gotten smaller over the years, but I remember when they were so big the filling would spill out all over my mouth. Cream puffs in the states are filled with just that -- whipped cream of some sort. Bleh! If you really want a treat, and are into baking, here's a link to my coconut cream puff -- yum!

Directions: coming from Dededo/Micronesian Mall and up Barrigada hill, stay on that main road. You'll pass Guam Main Facility post office on the right. Not long after, you'll see two gas stations on the left -- across the road from each other -- you'll want to turn left on to that road. You can't miss the big white building with "Crown Bakery" on the top -- 121 Route 10 (Vietnam Veteran's Memorial Hwy)
