PROA - AGANA
DECEMBER 2013
The atsmosphere and ambiance and decor inside Proa is the best -- I mean who wouldn't like it? It's more "formal" than at The Cafeteria (love it in there too and delish food!), but who really dresses "fancy" on Guam -- don't answer that!
Alright, my fave at Proa when I was there four year ago, was the taro cheesecake -- I'm a pastry-chef-at-heart so dessert is numero uno for me. That said, I really should have gotten something other than a salad!
The salad I got was the pickled papaya and carrots with mixed greens -- and mango sweet and sour dressing. It was much too tart for me, but like I said, I should have ordered real food. I was trying to be healthy after eating my way through Guam that December! This would be a good salad to share with a party of four -- so it would serve as a side salad to your main meal.
I loved the flavorful appetizer we ordered. It was a tuna poki dish. Lots of strong flavors, and would have enjoyed it as a meal with rice. Thank you to my bestie Mel, and to Rob, for treating me!
For those visiting from the states, I would say the prices at Proa are similar to that of Olive Garden -- in Holly Springs, NC, anyways. It's more expensive than the norm on Guam.
The first Proa location is in Tumon, just as you turn into Ypao Beach. Omg, that used to be the place to buy the BEST buchi buchi -- a fried pumpkin turnover -- the crust was out-of-this-world chewy and perfect! It's a small place so..... I'll have to check it out this summer. Based on web pics, the setting is not as "formal" as the one in Agana.
Directions to Agana location: Coming from northern Guam, take Marine Drive and go through the traffic circle in Agana/Paseo. You will see the Proa sign on your left, but there is a one-way side street in front of it -- West Soledad Ave. After passing Proa, make the first left turn that you can, do a U-turn on to West Soledad. Proa will be on your right.
